PARTIES & BBQs

PARTIES IN THE GARDEN

You are very welcome to hold small parties in the Garden for your friends. If you expect to have 15 or more people please read the Guidelines for Parties with over 15 people and inform WBM at least three weeks beforehand. You should specify the date and timing of the party and the number of people you expect to come. This is also in your interest since WBM will be able to tell you if anyone else is planning a party for the same date (and thus competing for the use of tables, etc.). On very rare occasions, it may be that multiple keyholders have requested permission to hold a party in the Garden on your date and you will be advised that there will not be sufficient space for yours.

When you have a party, please be considerate towards other Garden users:

  • Don’t reserve a table before you are going to use it

  • If you have a barbecue, put it on the gravel path

  • No music and unruly behaviour allowed

  • Try and keep the noise level within reasonable limits

  • Do not leave the Garden gates open

  • Take your rubbish home with you (including barbecues)

  • Leave the picnic tables clean for other Garden members after you have used them

  • Pick up any cigarette ends, bottle caps, corks etc. which have ended up on the grass

  • Avoid bringing glass to minimise risk of breakage

BARBECUES IN THE GARDEN

  • Don’t put it on the benches or tables or on the grass (it burns it, even if the barbecue is slightly raised). Use the gravel paths. Be aware of the direction of the wind so as to avoid smoke blowing on to other Garden users

  • Be aware that any food left behind attracts rats and encourages foxes to scavenge and scatter it around and no one wants that!

  • Clear up all your mess, including barbecue trays, afterwards and take it home with you

  • Don’t throw ash on the flower beds

  • Douse the charcoal with water from the taps at the North or South ends of the Garden. People have been known to go away leaving behind their still-burning barbecues. This is obviously dangerous for other Garden users

  • If your barbecue is too hot to take away when you leave the Garden, please come and collect it later on or the next day

NOTE: Any barbecues or other equipment left in the Garden may be disposed of without warning
